Pets vs Kids

Updated: Jun 3, 2019

Having children can be such a blessing but when you have pets a parent starts to worry about how everyone will get along. Not only is the fear of our babies getting bit or mauled, but we also have to think about what our children can do to our pets.

How to prepare pets for babies

You just got the positive result on the test and you are brimming with excitement. You go to tell your loved ones the great news when Fiddo comes sniffing around. Your mind takes you to the most natural place. What am I go to with my furry friend? Pet owners don’t have to give up their four-legged friends to welcome the new baby just start getting them acclimated to the idea of a baby. Research shows that playing Youtube videos of babies crying can help take the initial shock out of it when the real thing happens. (Might even help get the parents ready too). Setup the baby supplies and allow your pets to explore. You may be thinking, I don’t want the pet hair on all the new baby stuff. Well, to that I say, it’s going to get broken in sooner or later. Many studies have shown that babies raised around pets have a stronger immune system. The day your little bundle of joy is born they will most likely get a cap and a swaddled into a blanket, bring these items home and alone your pet to get familiar with baby smell. A dirty diaper is also something to keep in mind, so your pet won’t be offended by the orders later.

How to raise kids around pets

Something pet owners don’t always consider is teaching little ones how to properly treat their pets. Sure some animals are tolerated of hugs and little ones invading their space, but in general, they prefer to be left alone. Keep kids away from pets while they are eating. You’ll soon understand how annoying it can get to have someone’s grabby hands in your face while you are eating. Teach kids not to tug on tails, ears, or tongues, learning this from the beginning will help keep them safe when they are left alone with their furry sidekick. A lot of experts still recommend to matter how tame your pet or little ones are to always be supervising them together, it only takes one wrong move to trigger a bad reaction.

How to let your pet still feel loved

Like having an older sibling make sure you take the time to show some love to your pets. Walks don’t always have to be a family event, alone some one on one time. Grooming can also be time to show some special attention to your furry friend. This relaxes your pets and reminds them that they are loved. Pets like humans also need their own space to get away from the chaos now brought into the house. Give them a room or corner to allow them to unwind and recharge.

Having the best of both worlds is possible just remember to listen to your pet they can tell you when things are getting to rough. The war in your house is real, who will win the cuteness award! Will there be enough room on your phone to capture it all? When it comes to taking care of all your little ones, the battle is over.
